WebI have a dr650 and my brother has a drz400. The 650 is geared down one tooth in the back and we are basically equal on acceleration and top end. We ride the same trails and same roads and both bikes can do the same thing. I prefer my 650 by a lot though, I just like how it feels compared to the 400. It's also a very rugged bike and can be beat on hard and survive for years. I love KTM (lighter, faster, better handling) but I'm not sure I'd be willing to beat the crap out of a new $9000 690!
