Bioactive metabolites
WebAug 21, 2024 · For decades, scientists have conducted bioprospecting on Actinobacteria for the discovery of novel genera producing bioactive metabolites ( Atalan et al., 2000; Bull et al., 2000; Goodfellow et al., 2024 ). Actinobacteria are the most prolific source of bioactive secondary metabolites, with diverse structural complexity ( Takahashi, 2004 ). WebOdorous metabolites affect the smell and flavor of aquatic animals, whereas bioactive metabolites cause a range of lethal and sub-lethal effects in plants, invertebrates, and vertebrates, including humans. Herein, the bioactivity, chemistry, origin, and biosynthesis of these cyanobacterial secondary metabolites were reviewed.
